Audience: Executive Leadership, Foster Caregivers, Public, Shelter/Rescue Staff & Volunteers, Veterinary Team

Being a foster caregiver to a dog or cat is an incredibly rewarding experience. Occasionally, however, the pets that are placed in foster care can become sick or injured. This can be a stressful experience for the cat or dog and for the foster caregiver. Questions of when to take them to the veterinarian, or is this an emergency, can alarm foster caregivers who are concerned by signs of sickness or injury in their charges. The following class aims to help foster caregivers determine when something is an emergency and when it isn't by providing an overview of the most common emergency symptoms.

In this class you will learn:

  • Why a highly contagious and potentially fatal infectious disease is an emergency in a population of cats and dogs
  • Guidance on when to seek emergency veterinary care
  • Different types of supportive care you can provide until emergency care can be obtained
