PLEASANTON, CA--(October 4, 2016) - Maddie's Fund®, a national family foundation based in Pleasanton, CA, awarded $383,000 to Nevada Humane Society (NHS) to outfit the new Carson City shelter, which will aid in their lifesaving mission and allow them to adequately provide for the community. To show their gratitude, NHS is naming the new adoption center Maddie's® Adoption Center, and Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell has proclaimed Tuesday, October 4th Carson City will be renamed "Maddie's City."

Nevada Humane Society is a 501c3 non-profit organization and the only open-admission, no-kill shelter in the state of Nevada. In 2014, NHS took over management of Carson City Animal Control with one goal in mind: to transform Nevada's capital city into the state's second metropolitan area to become a no-kill community, where all healthy, treatable, and rehabilitatable animals are saved. Within the first year, lifesaving increased from 55% to 95%. The increased capacity with this new facility will allow for even more animals to be saved.

"Thanks to Maddie, more animals in Nevada will find homes with the addition of the Maddie's® Adoption Center at our Carson City location. Our community's homeless pets will be able to receive on-site shelter medicine care as well as benefit from innovative adoption and foster care programs," said Kiska Icard, Executive Director of Nevada Humane Society. "In addition, low-income families can receive spay and neuter surgeries for their pets, reducing the number of animals at risk for being surrendered," Icard concluded.

"Nevada Humane Society has provided a shining example for not only Nevada but also for the nation in providing sustained lifesaving of a 90%+ live release rate over 10 years," said Mary Ippoliti-Smith, Maddie's Fund Executive Leadership Team. "We are proud to help extend their lifesaving programs and services to better serve the Carson City community and help bring the state of Nevada to no-kill."
