The Low-Income Cat Altering Program (LCAP) will make spay/neuter surgery much more accessible to cat caregivers struggling to make ends meet. To utilize the free program, caregivers need only locate a participating doctor in their area* and demonstrate proof of financial need by presenting a California Medi-Cal card. There is a limit of 3 cats per household.
The California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) expects at least 1,000 member veterinarians from all regions of California to enroll in the LCAP program. Participating doctors can be located by calling CVMA at 800-655-2862 or by logging on to the CVMA web site at www.cvma.net.
The goal of the Program is to alter 10,000 cats within 12 months. The Low Income Cat Altering Program is underwritten by a $535,000 grant from Maddie's Fund.
*Maddie's Fund does not provide funding for government programs and mandates. In communities that currently mandate the spay/neutering of cats, or enact such laws during the course of the LCAP Program, the LCAP Program will not be valid.
