PLEASANTON, CA, August 04, 2016 - Maddie's Fund®, a national family foundation based in Pleasanton, CA, awarded San Antonio Pets Alive! (SAPA!) with a Maddie's® Fellowship Bootcamp Grant in the amount of $318,000. This grant will fund the hiring and a 12-month mentorship program for three key leadership positions: an Executive Director, Development Director, and Operations Director.

Leadership is a critical piece in lifesaving. This funding enables a significant component for SAPA!'s long term plan for sustainability. This new team will be provided with the essential no-kill training and tool kit to get the job done to create a lifesaving legacy in San Antonio.

Dr. Ellen Jefferson, veterinarian and SAPA!'s Interim Executive Director says, "Thanks to Maddie, this grant will enable us to focus on building a team that has the time to strategically build a stronger foundation. SAPA! Is now better equipped to deliver enhanced services, have a stronger voice for animals in the community, and attract more widespread support. This will translate into more lives saved."

The City of San Antonio has reached a live release rate of 85% for FY 2015, and SAPA! has saved over 30,000 pets from imminent death since 2012. San Antonio now enjoys no-kill for all puppies, kittens, cats, small breed adult dogs, and most large breed adult dogs. "There is still much work to be done to ensure they are all consistently safe everyday going forward, which is why this grant is so important. This organization is vital to the City of San Antonio's success in curbing a lifesaving problem that has existed for decades," Jefferson concluded.

"Maddie's Fund believes strong leadership and collaboration are a crucial part of lifesaving and fulfilling our mission of becoming a no-kill nation," said Dr. Laurie Peek, Executive Leadership Team, Maddie's Fund. "SAPA! is on the path toward a successful future, and we are proud to support their lifesaving work. Through programs like San Antonio Pets Alive! we're igniting change and cultivating the future of animal welfare where every animal will have a healthy home or habitat."

About Maddie’s Fund

Maddie's Fund® is a family foundation founded in 1994 by Workday co-founder Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl, who have endowed the Foundation with more than $300 million. Since then, they have awarded more than $187.8 million in grants toward increased community lifesaving, shelter medicine education, and pet adoptions across the U.S. The Duffields named Maddie's Fund after their Miniature Schnauzer Maddie, who always made them laugh and gave them comfort. Maddie was with Dave and Cheryl from 1987 – 1997 and continues to inspire them today.

Maddie's Fund is the fulfillment of a promise to an inspirational dog, investing its resources to create a no-kill nation where every dog and cat is guaranteed a healthy home or habitat. #ThanksToMaddie.
