That's what Erie County, New York, found out when they set out to save all their community's treatable pets, and saved 65 percent of them in a single year. Cats with chronic urinary tract infections, pets with diabetes - and yes, a paraplegic pit bull. They did it, and so can you.

About Barbara Carr

Barbara Carr has been the Executive Director of the Erie County SPCA for 18 years. Under her direction, the organization has gone from a live release rate of 25% in 1993 to 77% in 2010, the year in which the shelter adopted all of its healthy animals and 91% of its treatables. Barbara's leadership prompted Maddie's Fund to award her community a grant that has paid out $1.5M so far.
