Maddie's® Pet Rescue Project was designed to be a seven-year project. It concluded on June 30, 2009, having increased adoptions by 78% and reduced deaths community-wide 57% from the baseline year. Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project also ended on June 30th. The Pet Rescue Project will continue to track their progress and collect and report statistics to Maddie's Fund until July 2012.

Maddie's® Pet Rescue Project

Maddie's® Pet Rescue Project is working with Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project in Alachua County to end the killing of healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats countywide within ten years.

Maddie's® Pet Rescue Project in Alachua County, FL is a coalition of animal control agencies and adoption guarantee organizations working together to increase adoptions.

The coalition's lead agency is the Alachua County Humane Society, working with Alachua County Animal Services, Gainesville Pet Rescue, Haile's Angels Pet Rescue, Helping Hands Pet Rescue and Puppy Hill Farm.

Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project

The Alachua County Veterinary Medical Association administered Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project to increase spay/neuter surgeries and reduce shelter intake. Eleven private practice veterinary hospitals and one non-profit clinic provided spay/neuter surgeries to low-income county residents.
