Every year thousands of neonatal kittens die in shelters due to limited resources or an inability to see to their needs. Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) found a solution to this issue by starting their Neonatal Program. They created this program with practically no money, no plumbing and no trash service in an airstream trailer in 2009. That year they were able to take in 250 kittens. By 2012 they were taking in 2,124 neonatal kittens and succeeding at a 90% save rate. Now, they want to pass on what they have learned so more shelters and rescues can start saving these young lives across the United States. In this short video you will hear from Beckie Shafer, training coordinator and volunteer liaison for the APA! Neonatal Program, on how their successful program is run and how you can start your own.
