Total Grant Funding: $15,856,637.91 since 1997

Maddie's Fund® has a long history of collaboration with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). We have provided HSUS with more than $15.8M in funding, ranging from small Special Giving and Conference Sponsorship grants to large multi-year projects such as The Shelter Pet Project, Sister Shelter Project, Companion Animal Population Management Program, Puppy Mill Campaign and Gulf Coast Project to name a few. The following are updates from a few projects we have funded.

#SpayTogether Stimulus Plan: In early 2020 during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, spay and neuter surgeries were suspended for several months around the U.S. A partnership between organizations, funders and suppliers was born with the shared goal of providing spay/neuter surgeries for 50,000 animals within three months. Maddie’s Fund awarded the Humane Society of United States a $250,000 Partnership Grant in support of this plan. By December 2020, 207 organizations in all fifty states completed 75,115 spay/neuter surgeries, exceeding their goal by over 25,000 animals.

The Humane Puerto Rico Spay-A-Thon Project: In June 2018, Maddie’s Fund along with 22 organizations partnered with the Humane Society of the United States to launch the Puerto Rico Spay-A-Thon Project. Over three years, 57,777 dogs and cats were successfully spayed, neutered and vaccinated in Puerto Rico.

The Shelter Pet Project: A public services campaign between the Ad Council, Maddie’s Fund and the Humane Society of the U.S. which began with a focus on helping to get shelter pets adopted and now centers around keeping pets and people together. Maddie’s Fund has been involved in this project since it began in 2008. Through 2022, Maddie's Fund's total investment in this project is $6,516,388.09.
