Community Statistics

Many cities, counties and states are tracking community-wide shelter intakes, adoptions and deaths and measuring them against numerical goals. Such reporting allows the broader community to judge accomplishment in an objective manner and to have a yardstick for measuring the community against others.

The recently created Asilomar Accords promote statistical reporting by encouraging communities to:
  • adopt uniform definitions for collecting and reporting shelter statistics

  • annually report organizational and community Live Release Rates to the public

The Accords provide sample Animal Statistics Tables for gathering data and instructions for calculating Live Release Rates.

Below are some select Community Live Release Rates for 2004.
