Learn how to create a sustainable rescue program that relies solely on volunteers to assess cats on the euthanasia list and save the most lives it can that are out of other options for a live outcome. Frances Flower has a PhD in Animal Science and has been on the rescue team since Austin Pets's Alive's cat program began in 2009. She will share how to start an evaluation and rescue program and how to keep it going as well as how to get the most information out of your time with the cats at risk. About Frances Flower, PhD

Frances Flower has volunteered on the APA! Cat Rescue Team for the last seven years- evaluating and helping save cats at the city shelter on the euthanasia list. She works with a very small team of dedicated volunteers to be the voice for cats and kittens that end up on that list. Frances has also been an APA! foster (adopting two snuggly senior kitties - Rocky and Charlie), developed the cat foster mentor program and she now trains new cat evaluators for the Rescue Team.


Frances - a native Brit - followed her passion for animals by interning in the States, then studying in the UK and Canada. After receiving her Doctorate in Animal Welfare from UBC, Vancouver she moved to Austin in 2006. She now manages the day-to-day running of Whole Foods Market Farm Animal Welfare program, working with more than 2600 farmers and ranchers in North America.
