Interested in how the proverbial (vegetarian or vegan) sausage gets made at the State Capitol? Wondering how to energize your base and turn them into advocates? Want to make sure your voice is heard? Well, this workshop is for you. Join the New York State Animal Protection Federation's Executive Director, Libby Post for the answers to these questions and more. This presentation was recorded at the 2019 ASPCA Maddie's® Cornell Shelter Medicine Conference.
Libby Post has served as Executive Director of the New York State Animal Protection Federation since November of 2013. She lobbies the New York State Legislature and the Executive Chamber on issues that impact the state's network of humane societies, SPCAs, nonprofit and municipal animal shelters. In 2017, she was successful in having $5 million added to the state budget to create the Companion Animal Capital Fund, the first of its kind in the nation fund for capital projects at animal shelters. The funding was renewed in 2018 and she's working on it now for the 2019 session.
She has also been instrumental in getting other legislative initiatives passed and has established the Federation as the go to for any legislation having to do with shelters and companion animals. Post has a Master's Degree in political communications and teaches at the University at Albany's Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy.
