After a rough first year in 2012, the mostly rural Bastrop County Animal Services in Texas was well on the path to significantly increase their save-rate. Take a look at how they did it. This presentation was part of the American Pets Alive! 2015 No-Kill Conference.

About Erica Thompson

Erica Thompson is the Bastrop County Animal Services Director. She has been a resident of Bastrop County since 1996. She signed on with animal services in 2003 as a kennel technician and held several positions within the Animal Services division before being appointed Director in 2012. Under her direction the shelter is moving into the no-kill era at a rapid rate.

About Amanda Smith

Amanda Smith is the Bastrop County Animal Services Foster/Rescue/Volunteer Coordinator. She moved to Bastrop County in 2005 when she married her husband who is a lifelong resident of Bastrop. She became a volunteer with Animal Services in 2011 before coming on board as a kennel technician in 2013 and then finally being appointed foster/rescue/volunteer coordinator in early 2014. She is highly motivated to help BCAS maintain no-kill rates.
