In this video from the 2012 Purdue University Maddie's® Shelter Medicine Conference, she also discusses welfare implications of different behavior states, as well as how this can affect and be affected by length of stay in a shelter and the animal shelter environment.

About Dr. Sara Bennett, DVM, DACVB

Dr. Bennett received her DVM degree from Purdue University in 2006. She then spent 3 years in as an associate veterinarian in small animal general practice in Evansville, Indiana. She was accepted to the animal behavior residency program sponsored by the Maddie's® Shelter Medicine Program at Purdue University in July 2009, and completed the program in 2012, with a Master's of Science. She obtained certification as a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists in 2012.

Dr. Bennett addresses a variety of behavior problems and behavioral disorders including aggression, inappropriate elimination, compulsive disorder, fears and phobias and behavior problems associated with aging across a wide range of species. She particularly enjoys addressing problem behavior in shelter animals, helping to make these pets more adoptable, strengthen the budding human-animal bond and to keep these animals in their new homes.
