What do you need to raise funds effectively when you're a new or relatively small organization? The beginning half this workshop takes you back to the basics first, covering how to build strong foundation for fundraising, and then covers fundraising specific to animal welfare, which differs from other nonprofit sectors. Real, practical examples of what has worked at Austin Pets Alive! are covered, including from individual donations through online giving, e-solicits,direct mail and major gifts; grants; events, and support from businesses. The second half of the workshop covers issues faced by organizations as they grow larger, diving deeper into the details of creating an overall funding strategy, building a strong grants program, and offering more in-depth look at finding the right balance of fundraising activities according to the characteristics of your own community. About Maggie Lynch
Maggie Lynch is Austin Pets Alive!'s Development Director. She began volunteering with APA in early 2009 when she founded APA's grants program to support its rapid growth, learning the ropes of bringing in and stewarding the funding that fuels nonprofit work along the way, as well as the basics of program budgets and performance measurement.She left in 2011 to expand her experience in supporting social change, working at one of the world's leading social enterprises in Cambodia.After returning to the U.S. in 2012, she consulted with nonprofits on how to build strong organizational foundations for fundraising.In 2015, Maggie was hired back as APA's Development Director, where she leads development strategy and works with program managers in creating resources, measuring performance, and communicating their many successes to supporters.
