This workshop reviews current best practices in ringworm diagnosis, treatment and management in a shelter setting. Focus is placed on the role of staff and volunteers in treating and preventing ringworm in shelter animals and the population level implications for ringworm outbreaks in a shelter. This presentation was recorded at the 2019 ASPCA Maddie's® Cornell Shelter Medicine Conference.

About Melanie Benetato

Dr. Melanie Benetato grew up in Washington, DC, where she took an interest in animal welfare at a young age. She graduated with a degree in Animal Science from University of Maryland in 2007. She then worked at an animal shelter as a veterinary technician where her passion for shelter medicine was realized. She then completed a master's degree in Animals and Public Policy at Tufts University. During this time, she developed an interest in the veterinarian's role in combating animal cruelty and had the pleasure of working with the forensic veterinarians at the ASPCA.

Dr. Benetato attended veterinary school at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and graduated with honors in 2014. She then moved to New York City and completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the ASPCA Animal Hospital. She then went on to work at Animal Care Centers of New York as a staff veterinarian before joining the named Jovie.
